Are we heading for a Mass Extinction?

Are we heading for a new

‘Mass Extinction?’

Five times in the history of Earth, life has been extinguished by cataclysmic events. In one of them, the K/T Extinction, a six-mile-wide asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs, and in the earlier Great Dying, fallout from massive volcanic eruptions annihilated 90 percent of the Earth’s species. Could it happen again? The Smithsonian Channel special “Mass Extinction: Life at the Brink” explains why and how these catastrophes occurred, and why humans now pose a greater threat to the planet than any geological disaster.
The documentary, premiering Nov. 30, explains how human behavior and mistreatment of the planet mirrors the aftereffects of past mass extinctions. It notes that overpopulation leads to loss of plant and animal habitats and extinction of species, and global warming releases greenhouse gases, which acidify the ocean. Scientists estimate that most of the coral reefs will disappear by 2070, and many species of plants and animals, now heading toward extinction at 12 times the normal rate, will disappear.
It’s a chilling doomsday scenario, and according to evolutionary biologist Sean Carroll, who co-executive produced and appears in the special, “We should be very concerned. One of the main objectives of the film was to increase awareness of the serious of the present and future situation — not to scare people. There is enough of that from all sorts of sources.”

Nevertheless, he believes that we can learn a lot from the K/T and Great Dying events that may enable us to prevent man-induced global collapse. “What is very valuable about understanding these two past mass extinctions is that, even though they were caused by different triggers, they had similar effects in destroying habitat, altering the climate, and oceans. There is a very simple, but important lesson to take away: when environmental change is great enough, fast enough, and on a global scale, the whole planet is in jeopardy,” Carroll says.
“If we continue with business as usual, growing our population, using more land, consuming natural resources, and harvesting animals, we will create a mass extinction within 100-200 years,” he predicts. “The consequences will be loss of species, loss of food, and loss of a lot of services we get from nature, including water purification and pollination. It is also very likely that we will encounter new diseases from wild sources, and that existing diseases will move around the globe in new ways.”
It is possible, however, to alter this dire trajectory if we act quickly, Carroll adds. “First, expand and strengthen land and marine reserves that hold a lot of species. That buys time. The next things will take longer: convert to using more renewable energy sources, make land use more efficient, and curb human population growth.” He hopes the documentary will be a wake up call, and urges viewers to “act locally to support reserves, support organizations that are working on a larger scale. The probability of a large asteroid or volcanic event such as those in the film is very, very low,” he reminds. “We are the asteroid.”

The Fradulent Marijuana Prohibition
The fraudulent marijuana prohibition has never accomplished one positive thing. It has only caused vast amounts of crime, corruption, violence, death and the severe diminishing of everyone’s freedom.More than 700,000 innocent Americans are arrested for simple marijuana possession each year and made second-class citizens – for life! They will forever face huge obstacles to decent employment, education, travel, housing, government benefits, and will always go into court with one strike against them. They can even have their children taken away!
20 million Americans are now locked away in this very un-American sub-class. That has a horrible effect on the whole country, being an incredible waste of human potential.
There would seem to be a distinction between the lobbying power of “big pharma” and the general medical community – that both benefit greatly from the high incidence and cost of cancer – and the Food and Drug Administration.
The FDA works at the pleasure of the President (part of the executive branch) within the scope provided by Congress-made laws.
FDA, CDC, etc. are agencies that act within the scope of politicians – Congress.
Congress does the bidding of their paymasters – lobbyists for pharma and medical care professionals (doctors).
What is the reason you believe that the bureaucrats of the FDA might benefit from suppressing research into Cannabis (or any other drug)?
The agencies that do benefit – directly – from suppression of cannabis and other drugs are the DEA, and all the corrupt law enforcement officials across the land. Police, DEA, FBI, prosecutors, jailers, judges, parole personnel, private prisons, etc. They are the force whose jobs depend, in very large part, on the fascist, racist oppression of Americans.
Prohibition of private adult acts, done in private, are, always, abhorrent limitations on personal liberty by an over-reaching, power-seeking government.
End the Drug War: The American People are Not the Enemy
Question of the day is ? How many more people have to die before the guvmint stops protecting the profits of the 1% and starts protecting the rights of the people.
The use of cannabis as a medical treatment is not already a new idea. A lot of people believed in its effectiveness as a medicine before some research was being conducted and want to legalize weed. In fact, there were stories of those afflicted with cancer and AIDS having used cannabis and had positive outcomes. Marijuana does not only takes care of the symptoms of these diseases, yet it also provides a significant relief when using vaporizers from from its harsh effects of the other medical treatments like chemotherapy. Good thing that there’s a positive news about marijuana that will back up the claims
Prohibition of Marijuana is nuts.
Every minute an American dies of Cancer.
High dose Marijuana oil kills Cancer six ways.
It has incredible synergy with conventional chemotherapy and radiation therapies, making them far more effective.
It’s incredibly effective against the nausea cause by chemo and it lifts Cancer patients sprits — something that incredibly important, because having Cancer, going through the hell of chemo and radiation being in constant PAIN, not being able to sleep and knowing that you’ve probably going to die because the software in your cells has gone nuts sucks.
I believe In the full legalization of Marijuana, immediately, for everyone over 21.
That’s the smartest thing . It would save the country billions of dollars, bring in billions more in sales taxes, and nobody should ever be arrested for using something that much safer than Alcohol and infinitely safer than Cigarettes (443,000 deaths (yearly) / 0 deaths (ever) = infinity)
But the most frustrating thing of all is that Cancer patients can’t wait.
Every second an American dies of Cancer, and veterans die at a higher rate than non vets.
Call or write congress and the president.
If anyone from the staff of the Washington post reads this, please start writing editorials and twisting arms.!
Two things beyond profits:
Marijuana legalization is about allowing unfettered scientific research into more of the many potential benefits of Cannabis’ ingredients. For example, this quote from the NIDA (
“Currently the two main cannabinoids of interest therapeutically are THC and cannabidiol (CBD), found in varying ratios in the marijuana plant. THC stimulates appetite and reduces nausea (and there are already approved THC-based medications for these purposes), but it may also decrease pain, inflammation, and spasticity. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that may also be useful in reducing pain and inflammation, controlling epileptic seizures, and possibly even treating psychosis and addictions.”
Marijuana MUST be regulated to assure purity, potency and its active pharmaceutical ingredients (API).
Let’s get our heads out of the sand………

“Democracy is two wolves deciding what to eat for dinner; Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote.” -Thomas Jefferson-

PS: There is a cure for most diseases an cancers out there, something hid from medicine for many years by big pharma check out the articles below to read more bout it , believe me it werks also !-

this post-it is fer da wordpress weekly photo challenge this week the werd of da’ week is Minimalist

An artfully executed minimalist photograph is anything but mundane. It illustrates a moment in time, or an artistic perspective, with simplicity and grace.

Minimalist photography is characterized by a large portion of negative space, a fairly monochromatic color palette with good contrast, and an interesting subject that is able to stand on its own to capture the interest of the viewer. At first thought, it may seem like it would be easy to shoot an engaging minimalist photograph, when indeed it can often be the opposite. A minimalist photo can also effectively tell a story, in spite of its relative simplicity, and it is anything but “plain”.

This week, show us your minimalist photos.

Tiny hands, tremendous love. A minimalist portrait by Jen Hooks.

Going for the Ganj means more these days than packing a bowl and lighting up. With the puff, puff, pass of legislature, legalization is slowly, but surely rolling out across the country. All eyes are currently on states like Washington and Colorado whose recreational marijuana laws went into full-effect this year and on states like Oregon and Alaska, as well as Washington, D.C. all three of which will be voting on legalizing recreational in today’s elections. Florida is also voting on a marijuana bill, their measure is for medical marijuana.
